Arrangements in the Event of Extreme Weather Conditions

As an academy we want to stay open during adverse weather so that disruption to students’ learning is kept to a minimum.

Should the academy need to close, we will endeavour to send parents a text message and/or email. Please make sure the academy is kept informed of any change of mobile number or email address. A message will also be posted here on the academy’s website, and on the official Leigh Academy Tonbridge Facebook page.

We will also inform the Kent Closures website, who in turn will inform the local radio stations. Please log on to www.kentclosures.co.uk or tune in to any of the following:

  • BBC Radio Kent (96.7 FM)
  • Radio KMFM (96.2/101.6 FM)
  • Heart Radio (103.1/102.8 FM)

If the weather deteriorates during a day when the academy is already open, we may be forced to close early. Again, parents will receive a text message and/or email and announcements will be made as stated above. We will only contact parents of Year 7, 8 and 9 students if you have requested that we do so, otherwise students in all years will be permitted to make their own way home. Please ensure that you have discussed with your child what arrangements are in place for them to get home safely on these occasions.

Please do not phone the academy directly as this will block our telephone lines, however in an academy closure situation students will be allowed to communicate with parents by mobile phone.

Naturally our policy is to keep the academy open whenever possible and we will be expecting all students to attend unless otherwise instructed. Please make sure the academy is informed of any change of mobile number or email address.

If no announcement is made it should be assumed that the academy is open.
