WELCOME TO OUR SIXTH FORM

Choosing the right place to study is a huge decision as it can affect not only the next two years, but also influences the career pathway that you choose to follow for the rest of your life. At Leigh Academy Tonbridge, we aim to develop skilled and educated young people in an environment that helps you secure the degree, apprenticeship or career of your choice. If you join us you will study in a friendly, supportive and inspiring sixth form with excellent facilities.

A classroom is pictured with a large group of students sat at its desks. Each student is seen using a laptop computer to assist them with their learning, as they pay attention to the teacher at the front of the room.

Leigh Academy Tonbridge is a fast-paced and exciting place to study; the teachers are excellent, the students are friendly, and you can develop personally as well as academically.

We think it is important to recognise that post-16 education is a journey, and that every student follows their own individual route or path to reach their particular goal.  Throughout their time studying in the Sixth Form, students have access to small class sizes, excellent pastoral support, a broad programme of study and comprehensive university and employment advice.

We are delighted to announce that from September 2025, Leigh Academy Tonbridge Sixth Form will offer the full International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme. Whilst still providing students with the academic qualifications necessary for university applications, alongside our strong vocational provision, we are excited to also offer the IBCP core. We fully believe that the professional and personal skills this gives our students both improves their academic performance and sends them out into the world as employable, resilient and caring people ready to change the world for the better!

Sixth Form Results 2024

Across the cohort, our students sustained the performance of recent years with a C- average grade. As in recent years,  success in vocational subjects has been exceptional, in particular in Sport, Business, and Creative Digital Media all contributing to an average grade of Distinction in these qualifications.

“As ever, we are immensely proud of our students’ achievements which are testament to their hard work and determination to succeed. Our Year 13 cohort have been incredible ambassadors for the academy and amazing role models for our younger students. We wish them all the very best with their university courses, apprenticeships and future careers!”

Welcome from the Head of Sixth Form

I am delighted that you are considering embarking on your Post 16 journey here at Leigh Academy Tonbridge.  We are incredibly proud that students leaving our sixth form at the end of Year 13 all embark on the degree, apprenticeship or career of their choice. This is down to their drive and determination, but also the hard work of the Sixth Form staff helping the students realise their dreams.  We have unashamedly high academic aspirations for all our students, and offer small classes and experienced teachers who deliver high standards of teaching.

We are now a genuinely mixed-gender sixth form, with an increased number of girls, many of whom hold student leadership positions.  The sixth form is all inclusive and fully caters not only for the large cohort of Leigh Academy Year 11s but also for the large and growing number of external joiners.

All students receive mentoring as well as comprehensive careers advice and UCAS support.  Our PSHE programme is tailored to the needs of our young men and women to support them academically and professionally.

It is also important to us to treat our sixth formers as young adults, and as part of that we offer Year 12 an independent day on Wednesday, when they are not required to attend the school site, but instead trusted to work independently at home.

As part of Leigh Academy Trust we have seen recent investment in our sixth form, which has enabled us to broaden our curriculum offer, always with a focus on providing a balance between academic and vocational subjects.

There is a growing buzz around our sixth form and we would be delighted to receive your application to join us!

Sixth Form Facilities

Leigh Academy Tonbridge Sixth Form provides an environment where students can achieve their best and learn about individual responsibility. The Sixth Form Study Area is a space reserved solely for Year 12 and 13 students to work silently in their study periods. The Sixth Form Common Room is another area completely reserved for you to use. This is a bright, modern space with ample room for independent and collaborative study. There is a  kitchen area where students have access to complimentary hot and cold drinks and the facility to prepare and heat hot food. Located immediately next to the school canteen, the Sixth Form students can order food or drinks, and are allowed to bypass the queue!

Many of the other excellent facilities accessible depend on the subjects that you chose to study. For those studying Sport, you will benefit from the gym, sports hall, sports computer classroom and 3G all weather pitch. Those studying our T Level in Accounting are blessed with a new computer suite.

All students at Leigh Academy Tonbridge are given a Chromebook for the duration of their time at the academy.

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme

We are proud at Leigh Academy Sixth Form to offer the full IBCP to all our students.

The IBCP is an internationally accredited programme for studying that challenges and develops all students from all backgrounds.

  • It provides academic rigour through its Diploma Programme subjects (equivalent in value and standing to A-Levels)
  • It provides real-world, industry experience through the Career-related studies such as BTECs
  • It gives students holistic skill sets & competencies like no other course through the IBCP Core. This consists of:
  • Language and Cultural Studies (non-examined)
  • Reflective Project (worth up to 12 extra UCAS points)
  • Personal and Professional Skills
  • Community Engagement

Across the world, students who complete the IBCP are incredibly successful due to the high regard in which universities and employers hold it, along with its global profile and recognition.

We, at Leigh Academy Tonbridge, believe in and have seen the transformational power that the IBCP can have. We know that it can transform the lives of any student, giving them tickets to study and develop within our local context or anywhere else in the world. The IBCP is right for our students, right for our Academy and right for the time in which they live.

It is proven to increase social mobility, to enhance students as global citizens, not just as students, but investing in them as lifelong learners and committed, competent and resilient members of society.

Be part of the change; be part of this exciting new chapter at Leigh Academy Tonbridge in September 2025.
