Enrichment

“Character is important – a CV may get you the interview, but character will get you the job.”
Tim Peake, British Astronaut

Leigh Academy Tonbridge is committed to its enrichment programme that runs every Thursday between 15:15-16:15 for all years. This is a non-curriculum provision where students are given a safe environment to challenge themselves, feel success, and be given the opportunity to find out more about their interests and passions, as well as discover new pursuits.

Whilst attending Enrichment is compulsory, our students are able to elect their preferred activity. Each term over 20 wide ranging activities are offered to students, some examples include: cookery, football, sports leaders, world cinema club, construction, coding, science club, K’Nex, tinker club and badminton.

During this time, our Year 11 students have the opportunity to undertake an additional session in English or Maths to help consolidate their understanding of GCSE work in preparation for their GCSE examinations.

Two male students can be seen standing in the playground, playing Table Tennis together.
Students are seen dressed in military outfits and walking in a line together across a field.
A student is pictured playing the Harp in a Music classroom.
Three students are seen cooking and wearing coloured aprons during a Food Technology class.
Students are seen playing the drums with their hands during a Music lesson.
A student is seen smiling whilst working at a computer in a classroom.

Extracurricular Activities

Our co-curricular vision is to provide opportunities for pupils to learn new skills, and help them to discover what inspires them.

Extra-curricular clubs will encourage pupils to develop a further skillset beyond academic study. Extra-curricular clubs play a pivotal role in student experience, as well as helping staff build strong relationships with the students. We strongly advise students to grasp the opportunities that are being provided.

Our spacious library is also open every day after school for students to quietly complete their homework.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award enables a young person to develop their mind, body and soul in a non-competitive environment. Its ability to elevate their self-confidence, skills and aspirations should never be underestimated. The whole experience will have an amazing influence on participants which will last for the rest of their life.”
DofE Leader’s Handbook

At Leigh Academy Tonbridge we offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards in Bronze, Silver and Gold. These awards are sought after and highly valued by universities and employers who recognise the value in a truly challenging qualification that develops the whole person – mind, body and soul in an environment of social interaction and team working. A ‘challenge’, an ‘adventure’ and a ‘personal quest’ are words that can be used to describe completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
