Leigh Academy Tonbridge has been judged as Leading across all areas in a recent independent Quality Assurance Review carried out by Challenge Partners.
The peer-led review, which took place in January 2026, recognised the academy’s leadership, quality of provision and outcomes, and support for disadvantaged pupils and those with additional needs as consistently strong. Reviewers also accredited the academy for an Area of Excellence, recognising its aspirational and inclusive approach.
The report highlights the impact of strong and visible leadership, a clear and shared culture, and a calm, purposeful learning environment where pupils are keen to engage. Reviewers noted the academy’s successful transformation in recent years, its inclusive ethos, and the confidence and trust felt by staff.
The curriculum was identified as a key strength. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is well embedded in Key Stage 3, supporting enquiry, independence and reflection. This is sustained through Key Stage 4 and into a broad and ambitious post-16 offer, combining academic and vocational pathways. Reviewers also praised the academy’s focus on literacy, digital access through universal Chromebooks, and high-quality professional development for staff.
The review also recognised the academy’s strong pastoral systems, inclusive teaching practices, and effective use of data to support attendance and early intervention. Disadvantaged pupils were noted as making strong progress, with attendance above national averages.
Michael Crow, Principal of Leigh Academy Tonbridge, said:
“I am very proud of what this review recognises. It reflects the hard work, professionalism and care shown every day by our staff, and the positive culture we have built together with our pupils and families. We know our community well and we are deliberate in how we design our curriculum, our teaching and our support so that every young person can succeed. This review gives us confidence in the direction we are taking, while also helping us stay focused on what comes next.”
Leigh Academy Tonbridge is part of Leigh Academies Trust. The Trust supports academies to work collaboratively, share strong practice, and keep improving outcomes for pupils across Kent, Medway and South East London.
