Madrid Trip

Day 1 – 25,000 steps, a very early start but a lovely introduction to the delights of Madrid. In true English style we didn’t let the rain hold us back as we wandered around taking in the beautiful sights such as Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol.
Day 2 – what an epic day! The sun came out as we made our way to the home of Real Madrid – the Santiago Bernabéu football stadium. Football fan or not, no one could deny just how impressive the stadium is nor just how many trophies that team have amassed!
After the inevitable stop in the gift shop we headed to the Reina Sofia museum of modern art where we engaged in lively debates about what actually is art, who decides and finally took in the wonder that is Picasso’s Guernica.
Our final stop of the day was the flamenco experience where we learned some of the history of this iconic dance as well as some of the basic rhythms and moves. We are very proud of those students who pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and got involved – they were amazing. We also suspect Mr Tapsfield may have been a flamenco musician in a previous life! After being mesmerised watching the professionals show us how it is really done, we headed back to our accommodation for our last night.
Day 3 plans – a tour of the bull ring and a last visit back to the city centre before we journey home.
¡Hasta pronto!
