Entry Criteria

Merit in BTEC or grade 5 in GCSE business.  Students do not have to have studied business at KS4 but will need a grade 5 in GCSE English and GCSE maths.

What will I study during the course duration?

This vocational course will allow you to develop a critical understanding of business behaviour and the business environment by investigating and analysing real-life businesses. You will study leadership, attracting customers, recruiting and nurturing employees, managing finances, measuring business success, and developing strategic plans. Before and throughout this course, we encourage you to read up on businesses (brands, events, organizations, individuals, etc.) that you are each interested in. 

How will I be assessed?

The BTEC is both examination and coursework based with four units designed to cover a  wide range of academic and vocational skills. The National Extended Certificate will include 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are externally examined. The externally examined units are:

  • Developing a Marketing Campaign
  • Personal and Business Finance.

Students will then complete 2 coursework based unit which are:

  • Exploring business
  • Recruitment and Selection

Career opportunities and Future study

This subject can take you in many different directions. The course is designed for those who aim to progress to higher education or apprenticeships and ultimately to employment in areas such as Marketing, HR, Finance and Management.

It can provide you with a considered understanding of the functions that are relevant to all employment routes and sectors of the economy.
