Entry Criteria

Grade 4 in both English and Maths GCSEs, and at least 3 other qualifications at grade 4 or above including at least grade 6 at GCSE science.

Why study A level Biology?

The A level biology course is designed for students who have enthusiasm for the subject as  well as those students who have a desire to continue their studies of biology in further  education or through following a biology related career.  Students who wish to study A level will need to demonstrate an excellent work ethic and the ability to study independently to help support their studies.

Like all the science subjects, A Level biology  is a hugely well respected qualification by employers, colleges and universities. Studying  biology at A Level will enable you to consider careers such as medicine, physiotherapy,  sports science, environmental science, veterinary science and many others.

What will I study during the course duration?

  • Module 1 – Development of practical skills in biology  
  • Module 2 – Foundations in biology  
  • Module 3 – Exchange and transport  
  • Module 4 – Biodiversity, evolution and disease  
  • Module 5 – Communication, homeostasis and energy  
  • Module 6 – Genetics, evolution and ecosystems. 

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed by three external examinations at the end of year 13. There is also a  required practical endorsement which students must complete the achieve their final  qualification.

Like all the science subjects, biology is a hugely well respected qualification by employers, colleges and universities. Studying biology at A Level will enable you to consider careers and educational progression in medicine, physiotherapy, sports science, environmental science, veterinary science and many others.
