Students and staff at Leigh Academy Tonbridge are celebrating another strong set of GCSE results, with outcomes once again significantly above the average for non-selective schools in Kent.
The academy’s headline Attainment 8 score is 43.8, which is ahead of the school’s forecast and matches the score achieved in 2023. That year, the academy went on to achieve a Progress 8 score of +0.16.
There have been some particularly pleasing results across individual subjects. 62.6% of students achieved an average grade of 4 or above in English and mathematics, with average grades of 4.4 in English and 4.5 in mathematics.
Spanish, geography and science also performed strongly, all achieving an average grade of 4.3. These grades are particularly impressive given they are compulsory for the majority of the students. The academy’s EBacc average point score was 4.2 demonstrating excellent performance in the most academically challenging subjects.
These results are especially encouraging given the context in which Leigh Academy Tonbridge operates, serving a non-selective intake in an area where a significant proportion of students attend grammar schools.
Principal Michael Crow said:
“I’m extremely proud of our students and of what they have achieved. There is a lot of hard work behind these results, from our students, their families and, of course, our staff.
“What is particularly pleasing is that these results are once again significantly ahead of the averages for non-selective schools in Kent. That matters because our students deserve the very best, and these results show what they are capable of achieving.
“I’m also delighted to see such strong performances across English, maths, Spanish, geography and science. A huge amount of work has gone into supporting our students and it is fantastic to see that work reflected in these results.
“Most importantly, I hope our students take a moment to be proud of themselves. They have worked hard and they deserve to celebrate today.”
Leigh Academy Tonbridge would like to congratulate all of its Year 11 students and thank staff, parents and carers for the support they have given them throughout their time at the academy.
