Smooth transition to a new Principal – 9th June 2022

Three male students can be seen sat at a desk, reading books together.

Dear parents / carers,

An opportunity has arisen which will allow Mr Crow, Hayesbrook’s new Principal, to spend more time at the academy than anticipated with immediate effect. We are delighted that he will be based at the academy for at least half of every week throughout the rest of this module. This will enable him to become thoroughly up-to-speed with every priority as well as giving Mr St John the chance to transition smoothly towards his future career step. In addition, Mrs Gray, Hayesbrook’s new Head of College (Vice Principal) will also be spending at least half of every week at the academy  this module from now onwards.

As well as bringing forward Mr Crow’s commitment to Hayesbrook, we can report that all planning is firmly on-track to ensure we make an exceptionally strong start to the next academic year as well as a positive end to this one. I reported to you in my last letter how we have appointed an expanded leadership team following national recruitment searches over recent months. These senior leaders are already working closely together. We will update you shortly on plans for the small school model of education which will further enhance the quality of pastoral care at Hayesbrook in time for the start of next academic year.

Staff are currently focussed on enhancing our key stage 3 curriculum from September when we will introduce the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in year 7. We are delighted that we will be extending our digital device programme from September too when every student from years 7-13 will have their own Chromebook at no cost to their families. In the last few weeks it has been excellent to watch students in years 11 and 13 preparing so well for their examinations. They have several under their belts already and we will carry on supporting them as much as we possibly can until the last exam is finished.

Overall, it has been an extremely successful year in which we have made considerable strides forward on a wide range of issues thanks to the commitment of our talented staff team. From September, we look forward to welcoming families of girls and boys in year 6 (and year 5 for those who like to take an early look) to our open events when we will be promoting the opportunity to join Tonbridge’s new co-educational secondary school, Leigh Academy Tonbridge, from September 2023. Meanwhile, we remain hugely grateful for all of your support.

Yours faithfully,
Simon Beamish | Chief Executive
